KARUNA
P.O. Mathil 670 343, Payyanur, Kannur,
Kerala (Regd. No. S 23/2000)
Mathil had a prominent role in the field of charity for long
years. This was the place, as its history says, where the
distinguished people who participated in the ‘Yaga’ were
accommodated. Until recently, there was a ‘Thanneer Pandal’ at
Mathil where the pedestrians of long journey quenched their thirst
at gratis. Charity and co-operation were regarded as the
predominant factors of life and thus it is continued even now.
KARUNA, at Mathil a charitable society is a magnificent example of
such virtues.
KARUNA, a Registered Charitable Society, started its functioning
at the dawn of 21st Century, adds a golden feather on
the splendid and glorious heritage of Mathil.
The society is aimed at to promote health, education and cultural
activities of the public apart from its philanthropic services to
the poor patients. It was formed by a group of people who have no
vested motives but on rendering humble services and financial help
to the poor patients as well as those who are left destitute.
The Society is also proposed to be a Counselling Center to impart
information of advanced treatment and make the public aware of
getting various schemes of financial help from Government and
other Institutions.
The Society was inaugurated by Shri K.P. Satheesh Chandran, MLA
during January, 2000. Dr. T.V. Kunhikannan, Civil Surgeon, the
Founder President still continues his position and has been
rendering his whole-hearted services to the society at large. The
nine members Executive Committee elected by the General Body for a
period of two years is discharging their duties.
The Society has been helping the poor with its meritorious
services. The Society provides Rs. 50/- each per mensum as grant
in aid to three old aged women. Besides, it has extended its
financial help to more than hundred poor patients so far.
The membership of the Society is open to all above 18 years of age
and who donates Rs. 1,050/-. At present the Society has 52
members. The contribution of the members is not at all sufficient
enough to meet all its growing needs.
The Society appeals to the generous people in India and abroad to
extend their financial help and all sorts of assistance and
support to carry out its mission.
