PERSONALITIES
The
greatest Theyyam artistes of this place are late Shri Alappadambu Cheriya
Raman Panicker, Shri Raman Alappadamban, Shri Alappadambu Raman Panicker,
Shri Chindan Alappadamban, Shri Kankol Kannan Nenikkam, Shri Kankol Kelu Panicker,
Shri Vadasseri Ambu Panicker, Shri Kankol Koran Nenikkam, Shri Vadasseri Ambu
Perumalayan, Shri Alakkad Krishnan Panicker etc.
Poorakkali,
the "Pattathanam" of North Kerala, was taught in Alappadamba
and surrounding areas. The most popular in teaching
Poorakkali were Shri Alappurayil Kannan Panicker and Shri Kuthur Koran.
They were real stalwarts of Poorakkali.
Kolkali
was also very remarkable in this area. Shri Kuruveli Chemmencheri
Krishnan Nambiar, Shri Avaronnan Veetil Derman Nair, Alappadamba
Shri Kaipravan
Kannan Nair, Shri Kunnummal Chindan, Shri Kuzhummal Narayanan Nair and
Shri Kesavan
Achari contributed a lot for publicising as well as teaching Kolkali
to the younger generation. However, only two of them viz.
respected Shri Kunnummal Chindan and Shri Kuzhumman Narayanan Nair are with
us now.
The
Kathakali Acharyans of Alappadamba are well known within the country
as well as internationally. In 1962, a Kathakali Vidyalaya
was set up at Thekke Madam. Late Shri Kana Kannan Nair and
Shri Swami Kannan Marar were very famous for their Kathakali performance.
The
great interest of Thekke Madam family in Kathakali dance form
has resulted in setting up of a Kathakali Vidyalayam in Alappadamba.
These
villages were also very famous for Astrology, Thachusastram, ayurvedic
treatment etc. Shri Payyan Valiy a Kelu Vaidyar,
Shri Kudukken Lakshmi
Amma, Shri Pottakulath Mottukkan, Smt. A.T.V. Chiri Amma, Shri Kavungu Valappil
Valiya Krishnan Nambiar, Shri Pothera Chanthukutty Nambiar, Shri Ponnarayan
Cheriya Raman, Shri Avaronnan Krishnan Nambiar, Shri Avaronnan Koran Nambiar,
Shri Manjeri Raman Nair were very famous traditional Vaidyers (Physicians)
for treating snake bite.
In
Astrology, Vadassery Shri T.K. Ramar and Alappadamba Shri Thekke Madathil
Vasudevan Nambisan were well known.
Traditional
educational system was in vogue in these places. The Sanskrit
Vidyalaya of Marangattillam, Ezhuthusala conducted by Alappadambu
Thekke Madam are more significant. The services of Shri Thekke
Madam Narayanan Nambisan, above caste and creed, are worth mentioning.
Late
Shri M.V.M. Kunhi Vishnu Nambisan was elected the first
President of Kankol-Alappadamba Panchayat in 1952. He was
presented with a national award by the then Prime Minister of
India, Jawaharlal Nehru for exemplary developmental activities
in the Panchayat.

BHAGAVATARATNAM AND BHAGAVATJYOTHI SHRI THAMARASSERI
SANKARAN BHATTATHIRI
Shri
Thamarasseri Sankaran Bhattathiri
was born on 11th August, 1929 as son of
famous devotional poet late Shri
Thamarasseri Krishnan Bhattathiri
(Murali) and Smt. Devaki Antharjanam at
Alappadamba. He studied Vedam,
Sanskrit and Hindi up to the age of
18 and in his 19th year he joined Mathil Government High
School as a Hindi Teacher. Even during this young
age, he was also engaged in literary creations and
spreading th e word of
God through spiritual discourses.
Shri
Sankaran Bhattathiri retired from his
government job on 30th March, 1985.
Now he is engaged in "Bhagavathadi
Purana Sapthaham" and conducting
spiritual discourses at different
locations in India viz. Bombay,
Bangalroe, Delhi, Guruvayoor, Ernakulam,
Thiruvananthapuram, etc. He also
conducted "Bhagavatha
Sapthaham" at Badarikashramam.

has written and published a few poems in
Hindi language as well.
He
got the first prize for the best poem
from Kerala Sahithya Parishad in
1967.
He
was conferred with the title
"Bhagavatha Ratnam" by the
Chirakkal Raja in 1966.

SREEHARI
Shri
A.C. Sreehari born in 1970 at
Cheruvalli Illam at Alappadamba as son of
Shri A.C. Damodaran Namboothiri and
Smt. Savithri Antharjanam.
He
completed his High School studies from
Mathil Government High School and
graduation and post graduation from
Payyanur College. Presently he is
working
as Lecturer in English at Payyanur
College. Payyanur.
He
is one of the talented poets in Malayalam
and gained wide acclaim and praise as a
well known poet in Malayalam in his early
age. He has won T.V. Kumaran, N.N.
Kakkad, Delhi 'Gayathri' awards in 1997;
and Vailoppilli Sahithya Puraskaram
and Yuvasahithya Puraskaram in 2000 for
his collection of poems named
"Vishamavrutham" (The vicious
Circle).

SHRI
T. ESWARAN BHATTATHIRI
(Disciple of Sangeetha Vidwan Trichur V.
Ramachandran)
 Shri
T. Eswaran Bhattathiri, son of
Shri Thamarasseri Sankaran Bhattathiri
and Smt. Saraswathi Antharjanam was born
in 1970 at Alappadamba. Shri Eswaran
Bhattathiri started his music studies at
the age of 10 from Sangeetha Vidwan Shri
K.M. Neelamana of Morazha. Later on
for the advanced studies, he joined the
Music College at Chennai and was
conferred as "Sangeetha Vidwan"
in 1989. Also he was conferred the title
"Sangeetha Ratnam" by the Music
Academy of Chennai during 1992. He
secured his M.A. Music for Indian Music
from Madras University during 1995. He is
accompanying Sangeetha Vidwan Trichur
Ramachandran for all his musical concerts
in India for the last two years.
Shri
Eswaran Bhattathiri received numerous
awards from Music Academy, Krishna Gana
Sabha, Narada Gana Sabha, Kerala State
Youth Festival etc. etc.
Style of Music:
The rendering of Music by Shri Eswaran
Bhattathiri matches that of great
Sangeetha Vidwan of Karnatic Music
of yester years Shri G.N.
Balasubramaniam.
Shri Eswaran Bhattathiri also attends
individual music concerts at various
Sabhas all over India.
He is presently
working as the Principal of Government
Music College at Erode, Tamil Nadu.
Shri Eswaran Battathiri is one of the
"A" grade artists at All India
Radio.
